Talking about the problems in session is only half the solution. You may have become so absorbed by your problems that you have forgotten how to have fun. To help you regain the joy and connection that you used to share, we will show you a number of very simple things that take only a few minutes a day, as proven by scientific research, to build your bond to one another.

- Is communication between each of you in circles?
- Do you both rarely have intimate relations?
- Do you feel like your personalities are incompatible?
- Is your spouse's/partner's family constantly getting in the way of your relationship?
- Are you constantly fighting with one another?
- Do your interactions become emotionally or physically abusive?
- Do you feel like you never seem to be able to reach a resolution?

- Have you previously thought that this is a hopeless relationship?
What to expect
BRIEF PHONE CONVERSATION
Prior to scheduling an initial session, it is often helpful to have a brief phone conversation to discuss the reasons you are seeking services and to determine the issues/services being sought. This consultation is free of charge to you and provides an opportunity for you to ask questions about our services.
The initial session is typically scheduled for 50-100 minutes and when you arrive, you will be asked to fill out some paperwork which will further inform your therapist about your specific issues and needs. This session will include a discussion of confidentiality, practice policies, and answering any questions you may have. We will also focus on gathering pertinent background information, including some medical, mental health, and family history during this initial session. We will discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and develop treatment goals for our work together. If time permits and a double session is engaged, we will contract for specific issues and desired outcomes both individually and as a couple and introduce an initial communication technique that will aid in more effectively communicating your desires and needs to your partner.
An individual session will be scheduled for each of you and thereafter you will both come together to begin the work of rebuilding and strengthening your relationship to achieve the objectives you both have outlined and contracted for in your initial session. Any individual needs will be assessed and referrals will be made as appropriate.
A MARITAL VISION STATEMENT
Couples are encouraged to create “A Vision Statement” of what you want your relationship to reflect—I want to feel..., I need.... We need to know where we have been to effectively determine what needs to be changed/rectified, and your therapist will help you create a “Vision Statement” for your relationship uniquely crafted to meet your needs and objectives.
